How our parent cooperative works

Please remember that this is a parent volunteer cooperative, not a traditional preschool or daycare, so each member must fulfill his or her responsibilities. The program works only because of parent involvement and volunteers. We do not have a paid administrative staff.

In a nutshell members must:

  • Drop-off and pick-up their child within the PDO hours of 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Work in the classroom along with the teacher in that classroom two to four days per quarter.
  • Foster a sense of independence in their child as they learn to attend a program away from their parents or primary caregivers.
  • Show up on the assigned sub days and be prepared to work.
  • Fulfill their assigned job at PDO. These jobs include cleaning, maintenance, social organization, health and safety, communications, classroom management, and executive positions.
  • Pay session fees on time.
  • Attend a brief mandatory meeting before each session begins to discuss PDO business. Meetings typically take place two weeks before a session begins.
  • Participate in special cleaning sessions periodically.

Additional Information

Once enrolled in the program, changes to enrollment must be made in writing by the changes due date prior to the beginning of next quarter. You must notify the waitlist coordinator of changes such as adding or dropping days, leaving the program or a child aging out. A child ages out of the program at the end of the session following his/her fourth birthday. PDO is closed for major holidays and typically follows Denver Public Schools holiday and snow day schedule during the school year.
